Wall printing as a second source of income: 30% of their time, a steady profit – the story of DM Wall Printing

Wall printing takes up about 30% of their time, yet every month it brings in a steady, predictable profit. That’s enough to comfortably cover the budget gap in the quieter months of the year. Dawid Borysiewicz and Marek Ziarno didn’t give up their main business, had no prior experience in the industry, and didn’t wait for customers to discover their offer on their own.

They completed their first project roughly one week after buying the printer. Once they gained confidence, they shifted into a higher gear – taking the initiative and actively looking for customers.

Today, around 80% of their work comes from referrals, and the printer handles an average of 3–4 projects per month. In their case, it has become a second branch of the business, helping offset seasonal downturns in their main operation.

This is the story of how to enter the wall-printing market without previous experience, deal with the first mistakes and find customers when the local market is still discovering the service.

From this article, you will learn:

  • where the idea of building a second revenue stream came from,
    ● what the first weeks of working with the printer looked like,
    ● what helped them win their first customers,
    ● how the partners dealt with mistakes and breakdowns,
    ● what their business model looks like roughly one year after buying the equipment.

If you are wondering whether wall printing could become an additional source of income, you will find the story of DM Wall Printing here. Real figures, key decisions and authentic situations from their everyday work.

Where did the idea of wall printing as a second revenue stream come from?

Dawid and Marek were looking for a way to supplement their main business. Since their core operation was seasonal, they wanted a service that could fill the gaps during the quieter months towards the end of the year.

The partners first came across a wall printer on social media, when Dawid was still working full-time. At that point, it was simply something new that caught his attention.

The breakthrough came shortly after they launched their business together, at an entrepreneurship fair in Poland. They saw the machine in action, assessed the print quality firsthand and realised it could be the right opportunity for growth.

Wall printing appealed to them for several reasons:

  • they could add it to their existing business,
    ● it did not require them to give up their main activity,
    ● it allowed them to serve a range of industries,
    ● it offered the possibility of working locally and beyond their region,
    ● it could supplement their income during slower months.

A decision made in two weeks – choosing wall printers⁺ (in person training, support and replacement parts)

Dawid admits that he moved quickly. As soon as he saw the machine at the fair, he investigated its potential and convinced his business partner to pursue the idea.

Before buying, they were interested in more than just how the machine itself worked. They also looked into:

  • what the training involved,
    ● whether they could count on help with their first projects,
    ● how the service process worked,
    ● how quickly replacement parts were available,
    ● whether there was room for a new service in their region.

The last point was particularly important. They did not know of any company offering wall printing in Słupsk or the surrounding area. On the one hand, this meant they would have to educate the market. On the other, it gave them the chance to enter a local niche without competing directly on price.

Dawid explains that, when choosing their supplier, what mattered most was the complete system:

For me, the most important thing isn’t just what I get with the printer. It’s the entire support system: the knowledge base, information, service, marketing materials and everything that comes afterwards.

That approach proved important from the very first weeks. Here is why.

The first mistake – how wall printers⁺ support helped them solve the problem

Wall printing comes with its own challenges. The key question is not whether difficulties will arise, but how quickly and effectively you can deal with them.

One of the first problems appeared during an early project. Dawid had miscalculated the length of the tracks needed to print the graphic. When he noticed that the printer was approaching the end of the tracks, he reacted too quickly and pressed the stop button instead of pause.

Around 30 centimetres of the print were missing from the wall. Time was running out, and the pressure was building.

They had two options:

  • paint over the unfinished section and start the entire job again,
    ● or try to match the missing part of the graphic to the section that had already been printed.

With technical support from wall printers⁺, they chose the second option – saving themselves a great deal of time, money and stress.

Following our instructions, Dawid prepared the final section, carried out a dozen or so tests on paper and recalibrated the printer. The new fragment slightly overlapped the existing print, keeping the entire image consistent.

The problem did not disappear on its own. But with quick support and clear instructions, they were able to solve it.

How did paid advertising for wall printing turn into 80% of their work coming from referrals? Advice from Dawid and Marek

Let’s move on to customer acquisition. The partners never waited for the market to find them on its own.

At the beginning, Dawid focused on social media and paid promotion to let people know that the new service existed. However, posts and ads were not enough.

Instead of waiting passively for enquiries, he took the initiative. He began reaching out personally to companies in specific industries.

What did that look like in practice? After completing a project in a physiotherapy clinic, Dawid immediately searched for other local businesses in the same sector.

He approached them with a ready-made idea for how wall printing could improve their space. Rather than sending generic messages, he offered solutions that addressed the potential customer’s needs straight away.

He went a step further and arranged a meeting with the mayor of the city, proposing the use of wall printing in local projects. The result? Three projects for the city were secured immediately.

It costs us nothing. At worst, someone will say they’re not interested – he says.

Dawid and Marek approached potential customers themselves. Today, the proportions have reversed: as they explain, around 80% of their projects come from referrals.

The mechanism now runs almost by itself. A print in a fitness studio appears in the background of hundreds of stories posted by members. A wall in a restaurant shows up in photos of the food.

The branding becomes part of the space, and the space becomes part of social media.

Eventually, people began asking, Who did this for you? so often that paid advertising was no longer necessary. Their most effective sales channel turned out to be work that spoke for itself.

When does a print look so realistic that people have to touch it. The best wall-printing projects and profitable ideas

The best proof of print quality? When people walk up to the wall and touch it because they cannot believe what they are seeing.

That is exactly what happened at a clinic in Ustka, where a graphic featuring a hyper-realistic humanoid figure made a powerful impression. The details were so precise that patients had to touch the wall to check whether it was really just ink.

DM Wall Printing also proves that this technology goes far beyond ordinary walls. Here are some of the less obvious applications Dawid and Marek have used.

  • Plexiglass – an option for tenants. When a doctor renting a commercial space did not want to place advertising directly on the windows, printing on a transparent plexiglass panel provided the solution. The result was a mobile, elegant advertisement that could simply be taken along if the business moved. That flexibility is valuable for any company operating from a rented space.
  • Canvas – a personalised finishing touch. Vertical printing also works well for unique gifts. Instead of a ready-made framed graphic, clients can order an individual canvas print for the owner of a ceramics studio or personalised caricatures for the owners of a restaurant.
  • A free demonstration that drives sales. Taking part in a conference dedicated to new technologies proved to be a turning point. The partners offered a school a live demonstration of the machine and printed sample graphics. The idea impressed representatives of other schools. It quickly led to an order for more than 10 square metres of printing in school corridors, with more projects already in the pipeline.

This shows that not every project needs to be measured by its immediate profit. Demonstration work can build a portfolio, strengthen relationships and open doors that advertising alone would never reach.

Summary: what does it take to make wall printing a second revenue stream?

Dawid and Marek’s story shows that introducing wall printing does not require a complete business revolution or putting everything on the line. As an additional service, the technology can fill seasonal gaps and generate extra income.

After one year – starting from scratch, without an existing customer base or previous experience – the partners had developed a repeatable model:

  • around PLN 4,000 in net profit every month,
    ● 3–4 projects per month, requiring only around 30% of their working time,
    ● 80% of customers coming through referrals, making paid advertising no longer essential.

They went through the entire process: learning how to operate the equipment, making their first mistakes, solving technical problems with the help of the service team and developing effective sales methods.

Their example shows that success does not depend on having a perfect start. What matters is access to reliable technical support and the willingness to take the initiative when reaching out to customers.
